The mobile open source operating system postmarketOS receives monthly updates as service packs. ServicePack 3 has just been released for the stable issue postmarketOS v21.06. The service packs integrate innovations that were previously tested by the community in the edge channel.
Thus Sxmo 1.5.2 that was represented as v1.5.1 in Edge, included in the selection. The abbreviation stands for Simple X Mobile and describes a minimalist user interface that was created for the PinePhone and is based on Alpine and postmarketOS. It is a collection of applications from the the suckless help of a environment, which are welded together to form a surface with few scripts.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 supported
ModemManager 1.18.2 and NetworkManager 1.32.10 have been integrated in the network area. For the first time, the new ModemManager supports devices with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, whereby mobile data and SMS are already working, but the calling stack still needs work. This upgrade is particularly beneficial for the OnePlus 6 and 6T. In addition, the new version of the ModemManager is supposed to stabilize the awakening from deep sleep with the PinePhone.
postmarketOS Tweaks
The tool postmarketOS Tweaks, a ported version of GNOME Tweaks, is available in the new version 0.8.1 and fixes errors in PinePhone and Phosh. The new optional package postmarketos-theme allows the use of four themes that are available in postmarketOS Tweaks. The package currently contains a GTK 3 and GTK 4 theme based on Adwaita. There is also the Oled and Paper variant of the theme, which are completely black and completely white. As the name suggests, the theme should look good, especially on OLED displays.
PostmarketOS 21.06 users receive the service pack via a system update. Newbies download Service Pack 3 from the page project’s download . At the moment the new version is not yet listed, which will probably change quickly.
