Windowsfx 11 is the new version of another of the GNU / Linux distributions that try to bring the free system closer to Windows users using the fantastic possibilities of visual and interface customization of Linux.
Windowsfx already had custom versions of Windows 7 and Windows 10 and before Microsoft publishes the final version of Windows 11 they already have the one dedicated to the new system. And it offers what is expected. Windowsfx 11 Preview for x86 adapts the user interface to what Windows 11 offers, the general visual appearance and icons, a new start menu or the default centered start panel, as well as using Wine 6 to run Windows applications.
Windowsfx 11, what’s new and requirements
The developers have taken the opportunity to update the kernel and desktop environment from previous versions, keeping the Ubuntu base and with the following characteristics :
- Kernel Linux 5.11 LTS.
- Base package: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Neon.
- Desktop environment: KDE 5.22.5.
- Windows executable support: Fx (build) Wine 6 for .exe and .msi.
- Tema: Linuxfx WxDesktop Windows 11 Theme.
- Voice assistants: Helloa and Google.
If you don’t want to upgrade to Windows 11, here are some Best Linux distros
As for the hardware requirements, here you will not have any problems with TPM, UEFI, Secure Boot or DirectX 12 because none of it is needed. The minimum requirements are very undemanding . And there are lightweight Linux that can boast of it, although you will always need something else for a good experience:
- Minimum: Dual-core CPU and 2GB of RAM.
- Recommended: 4-core CPU with 4GB of RAM.
- Minimum disk space: 20 GB.
- Recommended disk space: 64 GB.
Its installation is carried out as with any other GNU / Linux distribution or version of Windows. You download the ISO image from their page on Sourceforge , ‘burn’ it onto a DVD or external USB drive and install. If you want to try it without affecting systems you have installed, nothing better than running it in Live-CD format. And if you don’t even want to burn the image, you can upload it to a virtual machine and see what it offers. It is still in beta and full stability is not guaranteed.
Honestly, we like other developments more like Zorin , whose latest version is also close to the Windows 11 visuals, but keeping its personality. In any case, here you have another alternative with Windowsfx 11, the power of Linux, Ubuntu base and the visual approach and execution of Windows 11 applications.
